Calculators for Indian property measurement

Metres and feet, square metres and square feet, and the land units that actually appear in records — hectare, decimal, katha and dhur.

Length

Room dimensions, road widths, setbacks.

cm → inches

Architectural drawings in India are usually dimensioned in millimetres or centimetres, while fittings and imported fixtures are quoted in inches. This converts between the two.

1 cm = 0.393701 inches

Useful when a fitting, door or window is specified in inches and the drawing you are checking it against is in centimetres.

inches → feet

Room dimensions are usually quoted in feet, while detailed drawings run in inches. Twelve inches make a foot.

Road widths and setbacks are given in metres; plan detail is in centimetres. One metre is one hundred centimetres.

Approved layouts state road widths in metres — a 9 m or 24 m road — while brokers and buyers usually talk in feet. This is the conversion that comes up most often on a site visit.

Carpet area, plot size, land records.

RERA carpet areas are published in square metres, while listings and price-per-unit figures are quoted in square feet. Converting is the only way to compare the two directly.

Land records across north India record holdings in decimal, while government notifications and acquisition orders use hectares.

decimal → katha

Katha is a traditional land unit whose size varies by district. This converter uses the value Terragi's records are based on, so it matches the figures already in use.

dhur → square feet

Dhur is a subdivision of katha used in land records across Bihar and neighbouring states. Like katha, its size is regional, and this uses the value Terragi's records follow.

1 dhur = 68.0625 square feet

Volume

Tank and storage capacity.

gallons → litres

Overhead and underground tank capacity is sometimes specified in gallons on older plans, and in litres everywhere else. The factor here is the US gallon, matching the old calculator.
